Country Origin:  Cuba or the Mediterranean.

Size:  Shoulder height 8.5 to 11.5 inches.  Weight 7 to 13 pounds.

Eyes:  Large, almond-shaped, dark.

Nose:  Solid black.

Ears:  Slightly raised.

Neck:  Moderate length.

Head:  Medium length.

Skull:  Broad, with a moderate stop

Topline:  Straight with a very slight rise over the croup.

Tail:  Set high, curled over back.

Forelegs:  Well boned and straight.

Feet:  Compact, well arched, well padded.

Hindquarters:  Short, well boned, muscular.

Coat:  Is non-shedding hair, not fur, and is double, long, soft, profuse; ranges from straight to curly, wavy coat being preferred.  Can come in a variety of colors including pure white to shades of cream, champagne, gold, black, blue, silver, chocolate or any combination of these colors including parti and tri.  No preference is given to one color over another.

Character:  The Havanese is very intelligent, happy-go-lucky, lively, and playful.

Temperament:  Havanese get along well with children and other pets.  They do well in almost every social situation.  They are affectionate and happy.

Care:  The coat requires brushing often if left in full show coat length.  Could be clipped short on body if not in show activities.

Training:  This breed is eager to please, but positive reinforcement works best.

Activity:  This breed's need for exercise are average.  Short walks should keep it happy.
